Soar above the skies of grey,
My poetry spreads wings
To take plight into an abyss of waves.
Unorthodox in my ways,
Astray and dirty, my diction
Strays from conventionality.
Continue to stay positive
But this remains my reality.
In present day there exists
A black face in the white house,
Public housing.
Is it a minstrel show,
Are we being Bamboozled?
Because us down here stay getting exploited,
Played, and locked up disproportionality.
Oscar Grants getting shot up,
How can I stomach the will
To follow the 'highest exemplars' of my species???
(i.e. Dr. MLK Jr., Malcolm X, Dyson, Smiley, etc.)
How change will be perceived
Is in the eye of the changee
How long will it take until I awake
Eyes reflected in the glass
And see me???
